Global Job Market Report — August 2026

4 min readBy the WeZoom research team

We aggregated 39,187 live job ads from 17 public sources. Sweden and Germany lead on volume, remote is rarer than LinkedIn makes it look, and Python is the most-named hard skill.

The headline numbers

On August 26–27, 2026, WeZoom's live jobs index held 39,187 open positions across more than 50 countries, aggregated from 17 public sources — national job boards, company career sites (Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, SmartRecruiters, Teamtailor), remote-first boards, and the Adzuna API across 13 markets.

Three numbers stood out this month:

  • Only 8.6% of live listings are advertised as remote — far below what a scroll through LinkedIn suggests.
  • The United States has the highest remote share of any large market: 29% of its listings. Most of Europe sits between 1% and 6%.
  • Healthcare and nursing demand shows up in three languages at once — English, French and Swedish — totalling roughly 1,600 open roles in our index.

Where the jobs are: top 15 countries

Volume concentrates hard. The top five countries account for over half of all listings in our index. Sweden's lead reflects both a genuinely active labor market and our source mix (we index Sweden's national job board directly — see the methodology note below).

The remote-work reality check

Remote work is real but concentrated. Across the whole index, 3,382 listings — 8.6% — are advertised as remote. Two segments carry nearly all of it: US employers (29% of US listings are remote) and the "Worldwide" bucket of location-free postings, which is 90% remote by definition.

European on-site culture shows clearly in the data: Sweden (1%), the Netherlands (1%), Germany and Poland (3%), Spain (3%), the UK (6%). If you are in Europe and want a remote role, the practical playbook is to target the location-free "Worldwide" listings and US companies hiring internationally — and to make your resume competitive in that global pool before you apply. Our free ATS checker shows how your resume scores against the exact job description you're targeting.

What employers are hiring for

By sector, the biggest clusters in our index this month: IT and software (~2,800 listings across the "IT", "IT Jobs" and "Software Engineering" categories), logistics and warehouse (1,357), travel and hospitality (~2,000 combined), sales (~1,400 across categories), engineering (~1,400), and healthcare/nursing (~1,600 across English, French and Swedish listings).

The healthcare number deserves attention: nursing demand is one of the few patterns that repeats across every European market we index, in every language. For nurses and allied-health professionals open to relocation, this is a job-seeker's market.

The skills employers name most

Counting the skill tags employers attach to their own listings, the top hard skills this month are:

  • Python — 420 listings name it, the most-tagged hard skill in the index
  • AI — 257 listings tag it explicitly (and it appears in 330 job titles)
  • SQL — 202 listings
  • Java — 147, Kubernetes — 146, Cloud — 144
  • React — 131, AWS — 122, TypeScript — 119

What this means for your application

Three practical takeaways from this month's data.

1. Keywords are country-specific and sector-specific. An ATS ranks you against the posting's own vocabulary. If the listing says "Kubernetes" and your resume says "container orchestration," you lose the match. Mirror the exact terms — truthfully — for every application. The keyword scanner shows the gap between your resume and any job description in seconds.

2. Remote roles are a global competition. At 8.6% supply, every remote listing draws applicants from everywhere. Quantified, machine-readable resumes win tie-breaks: our guide to quantifying your bullet points shows how.

3. If you're in healthcare, negotiate. Demand across three languages and a dozen countries is leverage. A locale-correct CV matters here — WeZoom builds resumes with correct conventions in 8 languages, including German Lebenslauf format.

Methodology

Numbers are a point-in-time snapshot of WeZoom's live jobs index taken August 26–27, 2026: 39,187 open listings aggregated from 17 public sources, including national job boards (e.g. Sweden's Arbetsförmedlingen via the JobTech API), public company ATS feeds (Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, SmartRecruiters, Teamtailor), remote-first boards (Remotive, We Work Remotely, RemoteOK, Jobicy and others), NoFluffJobs (Poland), and the Adzuna API across 13 markets. Listings older than 75 days or no longer present at their source are pruned continuously.

This is a snapshot of our index, not a census of the global labor market: the source mix over-represents Europe (especially Sweden and Poland, where we index national/specialist boards directly) and English-language postings. "Advertised remote" counts only listings explicitly flagged remote by the employer. Percentages are rounded.
